About Jill

A Life Dedicated to Barbados

For over fifty years Jill Walker documented the spirit of Barbados through her paintings, illustrations, books and designs. Her work captured everyday life, chattel houses, architecture, landscapes, flora, fauna and the people of Barbados, creating one of the island's most important visual records.

Today her family, working alongside the Barbados National Trust, are committed to preserving that legacy for future generations.

Welches Plantation

Where Art, Heritage and Nature Meet

Welches Plantation was Jill's home, studio and creative sanctuary. The Centre will preserve this unique historic estate while opening it as an inspiring destination where visitors can experience Jill's artwork in the place where it was created.

Alongside the house and studio, visitors will discover beautiful gardens rich in Barbadian flora and fauna, creating a peaceful green oasis.
